Booking the best New Bern vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- To get the best value, shift your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Finding the best vacation home in the New Bern area:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. MULTI-LEVEL, BRIGHTLY FURNISHED OCEANFRONT CONDO WITH EASY BEACH ACCESS has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your family.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
