Our top Vacation rental tips:
Find your best deal:
- To find the best value, shift your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, selecting, and booking yourvacation home:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanside Condo with family friendly amenities! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your family.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. message the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
