Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanwalk: 3 BR, 3.5 BA Duplex in Atlantic Beach, Sleeps 6 has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
