Getting the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the best vacation home in Emerald Isle:

  • Start by having your group select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. The Lookout at Queens Court has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
