Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing the perfect New Bern rental:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. The Lookout at Queens Court has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
