Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in Atlantic Beach. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose a perfect New Bern vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Palm Cottage II At The Grove, Oceanfront House in Atlantic Beach, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
