How to find the best vacation home experience:

When to visit New Bern & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Reserve your rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Quiet Extended-Stay Retreat - Pet Friendly! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
