Rental home tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in New Bern. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Double Up in Downtown New Bern! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific New Bern destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
