Getting the best New Bern vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

More considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
