Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Booking your New Bern vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the perfect vacation rental:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sea Salt - Classic Atlantic Beach home - perfect vacation location! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
