Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Searenity, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
