Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your family select dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Searenity, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
