Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your New Bern rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and pick your prefect New Bern rental home:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Shearwater-Pet Friendly\/Ocean Front House has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain New Bern destination you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
