Strategies to get the best New Bern rental home experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. FALL GETAWAY!! Beat the heat. And the crowds! Ocean view from 3rd floor deck. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
