How to book the best rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Shell Cottage DOG Friendly in Historic District has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
