Our top Atlantic Beach vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your New Bern vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to select the perfect vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Shipwatch Atlantic Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
