Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sound Front Townhouse-South Breeze has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
