Strategies for getting the perfect New Bern rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To book the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the best rental:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Spectacular Sound\/Ocean View! Large Saline Pool, Elevator, Golf Cart has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
