Tricks and tips for getting the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summer time is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the best vacation rental:
- Start by having your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautiful views from our 2nd row home with updates has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your group.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
