Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the largest rental within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • To start, have your family select trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. The Coastal Escape, Oceanfront House in Atlantic Beach, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
