How to get the best Emerald Isle vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Waterfront Home with Dock - Short walk to Ocean has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a certain New Bern attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
