Our top New Bern rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect New Bern rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. The Emerald Club, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a certain New Bern destination you love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
