Getting the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To find the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and choose yourrental:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Pelican Perch, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual New Bern beach you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
