How to book the best vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your group choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. The Hideaway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
