Booking the best New Bern vacation property experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Hideaway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
