Strategies to get the optimal New Bern rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beachwalk 113, Oceanfront Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
