Strategies to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • To find the largest rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Walkable to Downtown! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's an individual New Bern beach you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
