Our top Vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Why Knot Getaway…Rooftop with WaterView! Unit F has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, call the host before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
