Tips and Tricks to get the optimal New Bern rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Reserve your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Gathering Place - 1 Block from Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
