Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. 2 BR steps from beach access, dog-friendly NO FEE! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific New Bern beach you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
