Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Suncatcher- Ocean Front Home in Atlantic Beach, NC has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
