Sticking to a spending budget:

  • To get the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.

  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective.
