Rental property booking tips:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Blue Water, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before booking the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
