Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose and book the perfectrental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. OCEANFRONT--Pet Friendly w\/ Mother in Law Quarters has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
