Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanside Condo in Atlantic Beach, NC (Boardwalk Shores C) has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
