Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking your prefect New Bern rental home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. BRAND NEW home w\/ elevator, perfect family getaway in Emerald Isle, sleeps 11! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
