Getting the best Emerald Isle vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Carolina House - Steps to Beach, Fantastic Location! Walk to All Attractions has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
