Strategies to get the best rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Chadwick Cottage in Downtown Beaufort, NC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific New Bern destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
