Strategies to get the best rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:

- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental.
