Tips for getting the perfect Emerald Isle vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Gorgeous 3 Bedroom Ocean Front Condo in Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
