Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing your New Bern rental:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Gorgeous 3 Bedroom Ocean Front Condo in Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, email the host before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation group.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
