New Bern vacation rental home tips:
Getting the most from your budget:
- To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Kolby's Kottage, Soundfront House in Beaufort, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.

- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home.
