How to get the best vacation rental experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Kolby's Kottage, Soundfront House in Beaufort, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
