Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 5BR - Ocean Front - Pool Table! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
