Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your New Bern vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean View, King Bed, Sleeps 5 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a particular New Bern destination you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
