Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in Pine Knoll Shores. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the best rental home:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, 1st-Floor Condo with Deck, Ocean Views, WiFi, W\/D & Shared Pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your trip.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
