Tips to get the perfect rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking the rightrental home:

  • Select dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Pelican's Nest - Soundside, 5 min to beach, 2BR 1BA, Atlantic Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you simply love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
