Atlantic Beach rental home booking tips:
When to book a New Bern rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Pelican's Nest - Soundside, 5 min to beach, 2BR 1BA, Atlantic Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
