Our top Vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To book the most suitable rental for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book the bestrental:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Point Emerald A-208, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.

- If there's an individual New Bern beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
