Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Atlantic Beach vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- To get the best rental for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Steps to the beach! 3BR\/2.5BA Oceanfront condo complex has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
