Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect New Bern vacation home:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Updated beach cottage with enclosed patio, 2 decks, grill, AC, & W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
