Tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Beaufort. Booking your New Bern vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

How to choose the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Lookout, Soundside House in Historical Beaufort, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
