Tips and Tricks for getting the best Emerald Isle rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental:

  • First, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 5 minute walk to the beach, centrally located, newly refurbished has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
