Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. New 3 BR\/2 bath Suite. Near Historic Beaufort. Kitchen, W\/D, extras! No stairs. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
