Tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Catalina, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
