Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. 4BR Ocean Front Duplex - off Coast Guard Rd! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
